“ Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.” -- Proverbs 31:8-9
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.” -- Proverbs 31:8-9
In Chapter 31 of Proverbs, King Lemuel’s
mother is teaching him sage, common decency, personal integrity, compassion,
empathy, advocacy and action.
In verse 8 of Proverbs 31, his mother
implores him to ‘open his mouth for the speechless – this would include the
mute, the dumb and those unable to speak. [See Strong’s word H483] Babies, from
conception up to about 6 months of age are usually not able to speak. They have
ways to communicate in utero and after they are born but usually their
first words are Mama, Dada and No. In utero, they hear words, they respond to
noise, touch, and other stimuli. After birth, the words they hear most often
are the word patterns they imitate. After they break through with those first
words their vocabulary usually begins to build. However, for those who are in
the womb, going through the ‘design protocol’ -- a scientific biological
reality that happens when a live human female egg is
fertilized by the human male’s live sperm and the human embryo
is launched on its nearly 9 month developmental time schedule, but cannot
influence or self advocate. Who stands for the child’s needs and rights if not
the mom or dad? Further, at Lemuel’s mother’s behest, he is definitely to step
up in a case where the person may be appointed to die. Strong’s is adamant who
this is referencing. For instance this is a case: ‘leave children when dying’.
It is much bigger than this but in essence, if a child is left behind for any
reason, including by their parents especially in the demise of the parents, the
ownness was clearly being taught to Lemuel as his responsibility to advocate
for the child which would include an orphan. Yet, we should not forget to
intercede on behalf of the speechless when we can.
In verse 9, because of the last
sentence in vs 8, Lemuel’s Mom directs his character and conscience to the need
to speak up but with righteous judgment. And when no one else is doing so, to
plead the cause/or case, of the poor and needy. In Strong’s H6041, the poor is
defined as: “poor, afflicted, humble, wretched” and the needy [Strong’s H34]
: in want, needy, chiefly poor, needy person; subject to oppression and
abuse; needing help, deliverance from trouble, especially as delivered by God
and general reference to lowest class.”
Would you not agree that an unborn
baby is the lowest class? Consider how people generally refer to them: Fetus,
Embryo, Clump of cells. That same fetus, embryo or clump of cells in the womb
of a mother who wants her unborn child is called all sorts of endearing names:
Baby, Precious little one, miracle. So the vulnerable, lowest class of human,
in the case of an unborn child, who is threatened with death by other than
natural means – like the purposeful cessation of it’s life force. It is in full
baby development -- following an eons long historical schedule for a human
pregnancy. The decision to cancel the life of the unborn child
-- from conception all the way to the point when the baby has completed its
development dependency on the mother for survival -- puts it’s need for
survival in the path of anyone who can speak up for his/her survival.
This wonderful advice to Lemuel is
really rather important today because many have taken on the mantle that they
have the right to deny a living human life by exercising authority over the
baby’s life because it's disadvantaged by being dependent on the mother for
safety and protection in utero for it’s life. Here and now, the Christian should be familiar with a
rule of thumb from a GOD given law by which HIS people, Israel, were to live
by. ““If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth
prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as
the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the
judges determine. “But if any harm follows, then you shall give
life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
“burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.” –Exodus 21:22-25 is very
specific what happens if the child is harmed in any way. Again, while the
Mosaic law is not binding on the Christian it is dangerous to disregard the
inherent cause and effect of even an accidental abortion.
What if we deny GOD knew us before
even we were in the womb? “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was
being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your
eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
-- Psa 139:15-16
Do we stand in opposition to this
knowledge by infanticide? Consider some of the notable people of history
in or out of the Bible. They were definitely born to a purpose, some of them
not so nice, other's a blessing for all humankind. In the Bible, one of these
is a prophet of GOD: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and
before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the
nations.” -- Jer 1:5 There is testimony written too about the life of
Christ while in the womb and about John, his cousin, who baptized Jesus. What
would have happened if either Elizabeth [John's mother] or Mary [Jesus' mother]
decided being pregnant was not wanted.
Please prayerfully PONDER always that
GOD's WILL take place in ALL things.
